Also in this room is perhaps the most fascinating artifact in the whole place: a 100+-year-old loaf of bread given to King Maximilian by the King of Russia. Apparently, the bread was too salty for Max's taste, so he didn't eat it. For reasons not entirely clear, it was kept, and has indeed been kept all those years since, wherein it has self-preserved due to apparently especially potent salt, and not gone moldy. They are quite proud of this. I think I had a better understanding of this story during the tour, but haven't retained all of the details. Insanely, nobody else online seems to have all of the details either!
