travel log
Next, we came to the Music Room. This is one of the more historically interesting rooms, as it is where Richard Wagner (yes, that Richard Wagner) played the piano for a young Ludwig II. As an adult, Ludwig became an important patron of Wagner's, and it was Wagner's opera Lohengrin that inspired much of Neuschwanstein (apparently, Ludwig often sat for private performances of Wagner's operas at a grotto-stage at another one of his castles, Linderhof). The Music Room is in fact the room where Ludwig had a telescope installed to monitor the progress of Neuschwanstein's construction. You can also see in this room Ludwig's ornate reading chair.
