We round the final stretch of the day's Steveswalk, arriving at Max-Joseph-Platz, named for Maximillian I, also the namesake of Maximilianstrasse, and the subject of this big monument. He was the first of the three most famous rulers of Bavaria during its 19th-century heyday (the others being Ludwigs I and II). Max Joseph built this building: the National Theater. Four of Wagner's operas made their debut here.
