The church was originally built as both a private chapel for the enjoyment of the Asam brothers (who lived next door) and as a showroom for their talents for customers to browse. Potential clients could visit this church to see what the Asam brothers were capable of before hiring them, or after hiring them as a way of brainstorming ideas for their project.
