This was problematic. I didn't have a boarding pass. I went to one of the boarding pass kiosks that were distributed throughout this area, and they only supported four airlines, of which United was not one. And United wouldn't let me check in online because they needed to review my passport at the check-in desk before issuing a boarding pass.
