Obviously, despite being called "New Delhi," what we are seeing is quite old. New Delhi is defined by a geographic consideration of the chronology of annexation to the city, rather than on any kind of chronology of its use prior to the city of Delhi existing. Qutab Minar existed way before Delhi was a city. In fact, it is situated in Lal Kot, often called the "First city of Delhi" due to it being the oldest fortified city to be incorporated into what is now Delhi.
