Jama Masjid was considered to be an emblem of Islamic power across India, well into the colonial era. Today, as it sits in the heart of Old Delhi, it is one of Old Delhi's most recognizable sites and an icon of the neighborhood. Amusingly, if you look down the street extending out from the back side of the grounds, you see just how out of place it is within the chaos of Old Delhi.
