World travelers, does this seem familiar? Why is it that in every 'third-world' country, tourists are dragged to these facilities where they are shown the process behind making some commodity, and then taken to a showroom where they can buy that product at inflated prices? (The papyrus I bought in the Khan was far cheaper) When this first happened in China I thought it was the Communist government trying to promote propaganda about the working conditions of the Chinese more than it was trying to stimulate the economy. But then it happened again in Peru and again here. I've been told it's extremely common in many places yet no European country I have visited has resorted to this tactic.
