The pink building in the background is the famous Egyptian Museum. Absolutely no photos are allowed inside, so I have none. In fact I had to go through the strictest security in this museum out of anywhere in Egypt (except for maybe the port at Taba and Cairo Airport). Additionally, in walking down the road you see pictured, I actually had to pass through a police roadblock, where they stopped me, looked through all my bags, and demanded to see my passport. In addition, there was a metal detector, but as I would soon learn, there are plenty of metal detectors in Egypt and nobody pays attention to a single one (except in airports). Anyway, the Museum is huge and I really didn't have the energy, much less the time, to go through the whole thing, but I did see the highlights, including Tutankhamun's famous gold mask.
