Finally, we headed off to Khan el-Kahlili, the largest souk (market) in Cairo. I found it to have definitely some of the best shopping in Egypt. Unlike the awful markets in Aswan, here you could actually bargain down to some good deals. You can also see the minaret of the al-Hussein mosque in the background.
I did almost all of my shopping here. I bought an alabaster vase, some papyrus, a glass figurine, and the infamous shisha; the latter caused me no end of anxiety trying to protect it from careless baggage attendants and airport personnel. It was good having a local with me, as he knew the "right" prices of anything and we could start bargaining from a much lower price than most tourists.
