Sodroof homes are traditional of rural log houses in Norway. Although long obsoleted by tile roofs during the early 19th century, they have seen a resurgence due to national pride. The sod compresses the logs and serves as a strong insulator. Underneath the sod, birch bark provides the actual waterproofing.
