Personally, my favorite aspect of Munch's art is his use of unusual colors. Take for example this piece. The formalwear and the hair are depicted in normal, everyday colors we recognize. But the faces on the other hand are painted in colors alien and surreal, perhaps even sickly. I suspect this choice may be indicating Munch's discomfort with social settings such as the party depicted here. This is a theme we'll return to later.
