The trail is named Alkali Flat because it is a giant loop that takes to you to the alkali flats at the far west end of the park (and then loops back to the parking lot). However, we didn't do the whole trail, so we didn't get as far as the actual alkali flats. It was very windy and we were being painfully pelted by sand.
