And in the distance, we saw the Shiprock. It's a rock that looks like a ship. It's actually the remains of a volcano that erupted 30 million years ago. It's also sacred to the Navajo, who believe the Shiprock (Tse Bit’a’i, "rock with wings") transformed into a giant bird that carried their ancestors to New Mexico from areas further north (it turned back into stone upon fulfilling its purpose).
