travel log
Unfortunately, no photos are allowed inside the Mapparium, which is an absolutely first-rate experience. Because you are standing at the center of the globe and looking out at the continents, their relative size is correct in a way not achievable in a standard globe where the shape of the globe distorts the shape of the continents based on your perspective or how far from the poles they are. Amusingly, the political boundaries haven't been updated since 1935, so the USSR still looms large. A guide narrates the experience and shows you around this beautiful piece of stained glass art and the geopolitical novelties it contains.
