Our second day in Istanbul, we embarked on Rick Steves' "Old Town Back Streets Walk." The first thing we saw was Çemberlitaş aka "The Burned Column." This is from the 4th century A.D. and was the center of the Forum during Constantine's time (it held up a huge statue of Constantine-as-Apollo). Now though it's empty and burned from centuries of fires.
