Turkey is a Muslim country, and not a secular one like Egypt. The ezan (or adhan in Arabic) is called from the minaret over loudspeakers six times daily. They stick to a strict schedule even in the most touristy parts of the country, including the imsak, which is called two hours before dawn, to awaken the faithful to prepare to pray the güneş at dawn. So at about 4am, in the middle of the night. Well, can't say we didn't experience Turkish culture.
