This is the grave of Octavia Hatcher, daughter of an important family in Pike County. Locals almost unanimously believe she was buried alive. It is claimed that her coffin was dug up to find that "her fingernails were all bloody; the lining of the coffin was shredded and her face was all contorted." Her husband, James, had a custom-built coffin designed specifically for preventing the same fate for him.
