Next stop: the Boboli Gardens, which are part of the Pitti Palace. The Pitti were a rival noble family to the Medicis. Hilariously, construction on this palace began in 1458 but ended when the Pittis ran out of lira. But in the mid-1500s, it was bought by none other than the Medicis, who finished construction and moved in. They kept the name, perhaps to advertise and gloat about their victory over their bankrupt predecessors.
