Most of the buildings in the Forum are more like this: just facades and columns remain. These three columns belonged to the Temple of Castor and Pollux, one of Rome's oldest temples (5th century BC). Steves says: "As a symbol of Rome’s self-governing republic, the temple was often used as a meeting place of senators, and its front steps served as a podium for free speech." He also claims it is the Forum's most-photographed sight.
