We were supposed to also visit Lanquin Caves this day, a series of underground pools famous for being full of bats that fly out in spectacular fashion every night. I wasn't completely clear on why we couldn't visit, but there was something going on at the site preventing visitors. There had recently been a string of protests at Semuc Champey related to workers at the park not feeling they were being treated fairly. Semuc Champey had re-opened, but perhaps the issues at Lanquin Caves were related. So, we returned to Coban, where we would stay overnight.
