This is the most famous mural in Belfast, of Bobby Sands, an Irish Republican who went on a hunger strike while imprisoned. While he was on strike, he was elected to British Parliament but died less than one month later refusing to give up the hunger strike. If you ever want to see a gut wrenching depiction of his last days, watch the movie HUNGER. The mural is on the side of the headquarters of Sinn Fein, the political party most closely associated with Irish Republicanism.
