The city centre of Tokyo is actually quite far from Narita International Airport, over an hour by express train and closer to an hour and a half on a local train. Confusingly, there are many different train options available, run by competing companies that operate different railway lines. I had done a fair amount of research ahead of time and determined that riding the "Access Express" instead of the "Skyliner," the "Narita Express," or any of the Keisei or JR Mainline trains would most quickly get us to our first stop.
