Next door to the church is the "Great Mosque of Granada," which unlike many of the houses of worship we've seen, is not old. The church was built in 1525, the mosque in 2003. Essentially all remnants of any kind of Muslim community in Granada had been eradicated by 1570. This new construction is an attempt by the local Muslim community to not only reassert itself, but to remind everyone that they are Spanish too. Remember, most Spanish Muslims are not descended from Arabs but are natively Iberian.
