Camões is perhaps most famous for his poems about Portugal's famous sailors, including this guy: Vasco da Gama (who is actually buried here, unlike Camões). Camões' "The Lusiads" is Portgual's "The Odyssey" and tells the story of da Gama's first voyage to India using language that indeed paints da Gama as Odysseus. (better photo)
