Perhaps the most famous thing about the abbey is not the Black Virgin statue but the Escolania (Choir School). Founded shortly after the monastery, the Escolania is considered to be the oldest music school in Europe. The school is for boys and the Montserrat Boys Choir still performs on most days. Unfortunately we didn't do our research ahead of time to make sure we were here at the right time to see one of their performances.
