Although his most famous Cubist works were done after he moved from Barcelona to Paris, the work he did in Barcelona was formative and the museum's collection is probably the best in the world of his early works, including the Blue Period and Rose Period. The Blue Period lasted from 1901 to 1904 and began with the suicide of Picasso's best friend Casagemas. However, the discovery of a lover, Fernande Olivier (this 1906 bust of her was on display in the museum) kicked off the Rose Period.
