We were headed to Chongqing. China is a huge country, so most tour companies have you constantly flying around. Indeed, we took four internal (domestic) flights during our trip. Since the time of this trip, China has built out an extensive network of high-speed trains. For example, as of 2012 one can now travel between Beijing and Xi'an in under 5 hours and between Beijing and Shanghai in about 4 hours. This is impressive considering the latter journey is 14 hours by car.
