Our next stop was the Temple of Heaven. A LOT of locals hang out here, as you'll soon see, and many still arrive by bike. Apparently it is common practice in China to arrive somewhere with one bicycle and leave with someone else's. Despite the daunting number of bicycles in these pictures, bicycle use in Beijing (and moreso in the rest of China) is declining rapidly as people obtain cars for their social prestige value. Although we saw a lot of bicycles during our visit to Beijing, I can only imagine what it must have been like ten years prior.
