Power Stone is definately
a new type of fighter. There aren't nearly as many complex combos
as in traditional fighters, but the gameplay is completely redefined.
This is what Capcom calls a "go anwhere, do anything"
fighter.
Graphics
The graphics were designed to
be cartoony, and they are. But the graphics are still rendered
in beautiful 3D, and they look very smooth. The levels themselves
aren't quite as impressive as the characters, but they work.
Sound
The sound effects used for the
characters (such as when they get hit) are kind of generic and
bland, but the background music is well done. The sound effects
other than when the character gets hit are also fairly well
done.
Gameplay
This is where Power Stone
shines. The levels are large enough that you can
run away from your enemy, jump on top of things, and spin on
poles and fly off to kick your enemy. You can also pick up crates
(if you are Gunrock, you can pick up the poles too) and throw
them at your enemy to do damage from far away. You can also
pick up weapons you find in the levels to do major damage. The
concept of Power Stone is to colelct the three power
stones in order to transform into a super form of your character.
You then can use massive attacks that do awesome damage for
a limited time. Then the three gems are scattered around the
level and you have to get them again. Of course, if you get
hit hard enough by your enemy, you will lose one of your gems
so your enemy can steal them to prevent you from transforming,
and so they can transform themselves. There are no blocks, so
it is a fast-paced game that keeps you mvoing at all times.
The game really is fun. I must say one thing though: the final,
final boss (the giant moster that sites in the middle of the
level and moves really really slow) sucked. Other than
that, the game is really fun.
Control
The controls are good. Not much
to say though. The controls simply are good, and allow for a
fun experience.
Lastability
Yes. There is lots of lastability
in Power Stone. After you beat the game once, you will
unlock a new character, feature, weapon, or even a new VMU
GAME!!! Yes, Power Stone includes not 1 but 3
VMU games for you to play if you beat the game enough times!
Along with Sonic Adventure's Chao, Power Stone
is the only other game to feature a VMU game. I love it! Anyway,
you can unlock many features by beating the game with different
characters. And, of course, you can't forget, that when you
beat the game with every character, you can still play Power
Stone against your friends!
